In early 2019, she also gave a lecture in Amsterdam titled “Technologies of Violence at Damascus Gate,” which sparked a media controversy even before the event. According to the event description, Shalhoub-Kevorkian planned to share letters written by children from East Jerusalem about their experiences. Through the children’s voices, she intended to show how Israel’s defense industry uses the lives and bodies of children and residents of East Jerusalem to market weapons and knowledge that has been “field-tested.”Source
During the Israel–Hamas war (the Swords of Iron War), she claimed that “Israel is committing war crimes,” that “criminals should be punished,” and that “Israel is a killing machine.”Source
Shalhoub-Kevorkian was suspended from her position at Hebrew University in March 2024 after committing criminal incitement to terrorism on a podcast, for which she was eventually arrested in April 2024. Shalhoub-Kevorkian was released from detention on court orders later that month and reinstated by Hebrew University in August 2024, before resigning to take a position at Princeton.
